Huntsville’s long-standing college basketball rivalry between The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and Alabama A&M University (AAMU) is making a comeback with the return of the Mayor’s Cup.

This year’s event will be held Monday, October 27, on AAMU’s campus, featuring a women’s exhibition game at 5 PM followed by the men’s game at 7 PM. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Mayor’s Cup celebrates friendly competition and community spirit between the city’s two largest universities. The rivalry dates back to the 1970s, with the men’s first matchup in 1974 and the women’s debut in 1977. After several decades of competition– and a brief revival in 2013– the series returns this fall, reigniting a beloved Huntsville sports tradition.
