Huntsville Sports Commission Welcomes Ava Williams as a 2026 Summer Intern

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As the Huntsville Sports Commission prepares for another exciting summer of events, the organization is excited to announce Ava Williams as a 2026 Summer Intern.

Williams is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a focus in Pre-Law and a minor in Classical Civilizations at Duke University, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA while working within the university’s Division I Athletics Communications Department, as well as the university’s Thompson Writing Studio as a writing consultant.

“I am overjoyed for the opportunity to contribute to the Huntsville Sports Commission and work with an organization that so strongly values sports and community,” Williams said. Sports have always been a meaningful part of my life, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to combine my passion for athletics, storytelling, and the Huntsville community in such a worthwhile way”.

Since joining the Duke Athletics Communications team in 2024, Williams has gained hands-on experience in media relations, AP-style writing, statistical operations, and digital content management. She has authored multiple press releases for a variety of Duke sports and has created more than 100 athlete profiles across baseball, soccer, and wrestling for GoDuke.com. Williams has also worked since 2025 as an Embedded Writing Consultant at the Duke University Thompson Writing Studio, which has allowed her to hone her skills as a writer while consulting with other students on their writing for classes. She has met with 40+ students over the past year to help writers, not just pieces of writing, develop.

Last summer, Williams worked as an intern in New York City for an up-and-coming company, Magnet Originals. There, she built experience in branding and digital storytelling, while also contributing to multimedia campaigns, marketing research, and several creative development projects.

Born and raised in Huntsville, Williams has long appreciated the city’s dedication to the growing sports culture and strong sense of community.
