Huntsville Sports Commission Announces Fall Intern Samantha Day-Jones

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — As the Huntsville Sports Commission prepares for an exciting fall of sports and events, the organization is excited to announce Samantha Day-Jones as a 2026 Fall Intern.

Day-Jones is a senior at the University of North Alabama, where she is pursuing a degree in Sport and Recreation Management. A former collegiate softball player, Day-Jones brings experience as a student-athlete, recreation intern, and event planner to her role with the Huntsville Sports Commission.

“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work with Huntsville Sports Commission and gain hands-on experience in the sports industry,” Day-Jones said. “As someone who has been involved in athletics my entire life, I am super excited to combine my passion for sports with my education in Sport and Recreation Management while gaining valuable experience within the sport industry.”

Day-Jones began her collegiate softball career at Itawamba Community College, where she played from 2022–2024. During her freshman season, she was named First Team All-MACCC, and despite suffering an ACL injury as a sophomore, she earned Honorable Mention All-MACCC recognition. She later transferred to the University of North Alabama, where she continued her softball career for one season.

While pursuing her degree at UNA, Day-Jones has remained active academically and within the Sport and Recreation Management program. She has been named to the Dean’s List for the past two years and helped design and execute the program’s first Sport Leadership Summit, providing high school coaches with leadership development, networking opportunities, and continuing education units.

In Fall 2025, Day-Jones completed an internship with the City of Florence Parks and Recreation Department, where she gained hands-on experience in recreation programming, community engagement, and municipal parks and recreation operations.

Day-Jones’ experiences as a collegiate athlete and Sport and Recreation Management student have shaped her interest in event management, athletics, and recreation. She looks forward to continuing to develop those skills during her internship with the Huntsville Sports Commission.
